Collection: Joe Webb
Born in Neath, Wales, a town famed for its industrial heritage, Welsh rugby, and as the birthplace of singer Katherine Jenkins. He began studying jazz piano at age 12. He attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff from 2009, studying jazz with some of the country's finest jazz musicians, and graduated in 2012. He moved to London and became involved with a dynamic group of young jazz musicians led by trumpeter Laura Jurd, pianist Elliott Galvin, and drummer Corrie Dick who called themselves Chaos Collective. He featured on Corrie Dick's 2016 album Impossible Things. He also joined the Kansas Smitty's House Band, formed in 2013 by Jack Abraham and Giacomo Smith, and was featured on their debut album Kansas Smitty's.
He released his debut album Summer Chill in June 2022 on Ubuntu Music. In early 2024 he released EPs Collblanc and SET. His first full-length album Hamstrings & Hurricanes was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2025. He signed with Edition Records. Drawing inspiration from the emotive depth of 1990s Britpop (particularly Oasis and Blur) and his Welsh cultural roots, he seamlessly blends traditional jazz with contemporary flair. His innovative approach breathes new life into classic jazz idioms. He cites influences including Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Teddy Wilson, Duke Ellington, Franz Liszt, and Billie Holiday. He plays piano and Hammond organ.
