The Lush Life Difference

Why Buy Jazz Vinyl From Lush Life Records?
Fair question. We're a new store (launched October 2025), and you're probably wondering what makes us different from the established names.
Here's the honest answer.
We're Jazz Specialists
We don't sell everything. We sell jazz vinyl, and we're selective about what makes it into our catalogue.
Every record in our store is one I'd personally add to my own collection. That means no filler, no algorithm-generated recommendations, just thoughtfully curated jazz spanning from hard bop classics to contemporary UK releases.
If you're tired of wading through 500,000 titles on generalist sites, you'll appreciate our approach.
Australia's Best Shipping Policy for Vinyl
Let's talk about what actually matters: getting your records to you safely and affordably.
Our shipping:
- $9.95 flat rate Australia-wide (not $20 like some competitors)
- Free shipping over $100 (much easier to hit than $180 or $200 thresholds)
- Same-day dispatch Monday to Friday for orders before 2pm
- Professional packaging - rigid mailers, corner protection, records removed from jackets to prevent seam splits
We keep shipping costs low because we'd rather you spend your money on more records, not postage.
Fair Pricing (No Gouging)
Our pricing philosophy is simple: audiophile quality at fair prices.
Blue Note Tone Poet example:
- Lush Life: $80
- Premium competitors: $85+
- Add shipping: We're typically $15-30 cheaper per order
We're not trying to be the cheapest (that race to the bottom doesn't serve anyone), but we won't charge premium prices just because we can. Our margins on Japanese pressings are good, which means we can stay competitive on everything else.
Japanese Pressings (Our Specialty)
We focus heavily on vintage Japanese pressings because they're exceptional and underrepresented in the Australian market.
If you know, you know. If you don't, here's why collectors seek them out: meticulous pressing quality, often superior mastering, and distinctive packaging. We source these carefully and price them fairly.
This is where we differentiate ourselves. Most Australian stores have a few scattered Japanese pressings. We're building a dedicated collection.
Expert Grading & Inspection
Every record is:
- Cleaned before listing (if used)
- Play-tested when condition is uncertain
- Graded conservatively - we'd rather under-promise and over-deliver
- Photographed (increasingly, our actual stock rather than stock images)
- Described honestly - if there's a flaw, we document it with photos
We understand that grading accuracy matters. Your trust depends on it, and our reputation depends on your trust.
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
For new, sealed vinyl:
Full refund within 30 days, no questions asked. Changed your mind? No problem. Return it sealed and we'll refund you in full.
For used/vintage vinyl:
We stand behind our grading 100%. If a record arrives damaged in shipping, or if our grading wasn't accurate, we'll make it right with a full refund. We cover return shipping if it's our mistake.
However, we can't accept change-of-mind returns on used vinyl once it's been opened and played. I'm sure you understand why - there's no way to verify the condition after it's left our hands. This is standard practice for vintage records, and it's why our grading accuracy matters so much.
If something arrives damaged:
Email us photos within 48 hours of delivery. We'll arrange a replacement or full refund immediately, and we'll cover return shipping.
New stores have to earn trust. This is how we do it.
Personal Service
When you email us, you're talking to me (Will), not a customer service team reading from a script.
I source every record, grade every record, pack every order, and write every product description. If you have a question about a pressing variant or want to know if something's coming back in stock, just ask.
This is a one-person operation (for now), which means:
- Slower response than Amazon - but you get actual expertise
- Smaller catalogue than Discrepancy - but everything's hand-picked
- No corporate polish - but genuine passion for the music
The Bottom Line
Choose Lush Life Records if you want:
- Curated jazz vinyl (not overwhelming selection)
- Expert knowledge (happy to answer questions about pressings)
- Fair pricing + best shipping policy in Australia
- Access to quality Japanese pressings
- Support for an independent specialist (not a corporation)
Choose someone else if you want:
- The absolute cheapest price
- Physical store experience
- 500,000 titles to browse
We're not for everyone, and that's fine. We're for jazz collectors who value curation, expertise, and fair dealing.
