Recorded live in Hilversum, Netherlands on June 2, 1964, Last Date is a historic document of Eric Dolphy’s final recorded performance before his untimely passing later that month. Originally released in 1964 on Fontana, the album captures Dolphy at the height of his creativity — daring, expressive, and uncompromising.

Joined by pianist Misja Mengelberg, bassist Han Bennink, and drummer Jacques Schols, Dolphy moves fluidly between alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and flute. The quartet’s interplay is adventurous yet lyrical, balancing avant-garde freedom with deep melodic sensitivity. The result is music that feels urgent, beautiful, and timeless.
