Kenny Dorham
Kenny Dorham (1924–1972), lyrical bebop/hard-bop trumpeter and under-sung composer. A Charlie Parker sideman and early Jazz Messenger, he led superb Blue Note/New Jazz dates—Afro-Cuban, Quiet Kenny, Whistle Stop, Una Mas. He wrote the modern standard “Blue Bossa” (first recorded on Joe Henderson’s Page One). Warm tone, melodic poise; a connoisseur’s favourite.
