Kamasi Washington (born 1981), Los Angeles tenor saxophonist and West Coast Get Down linchpin. After featuring on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, he broke through with the three-hour opus The Epic (2015), followed by Harmony of Difference and Heaven and Earth. His 2024 album Fearless Movement extends his expansive, hip-hop-infused spiritual jazz.
