Collection: Audrey Powne

Audrey Powne writes, sings and arranges music where jazz meets soul, using her trumpet as a second voice rather than a showpiece. A Monash University graduate who came up in Melbourne’s jazz and soul scene, she first drew wide attention with the self-released Bed I Made (2020), which Bandcamp Daily named among the best soul releases of October that year. Her quartet Aura contributed to Brownswood’s Sunny Side Up compilation, and the Gilles Peterson connection has followed her since. Signing to BBE in 2023, she released From the Fire in 2024, written and produced by Powne herself with the string parts arranged by her, then followed it with Bodies of Water on BBE in 2026, a record built on elemental imagery and a mix of jazz, soul, Afrobeat and neo-soul influences. She is now based in the UK, and her BBE vinyl is the clearest route into a voice that sits comfortably beside Brownswood and the wider London jazz-soul scene.
