Recorded live at Avery Fisher Hall in New York in 1974 and released in 1975, The Last Concert captures The Modern Jazz Quartet — Milt Jackson (vibraphone), John Lewis (piano), Percy Heath (bass), and Connie Kay (drums) — in what was intended to be their final performance.

The double LP presents a career-spanning program, from swinging takes on standards to their signature chamber-jazz originals. Highlights include a joyful rendition of Django, Jackson’s bluesy soloing on Blues in A Minor, and Lewis’s refined touch throughout. The interplay between the four musicians, honed over decades together, makes the concert both celebratory and bittersweet.

Elegant, swinging, and full of history, The Last Concert is a fitting farewell document from one of the most influential small groups in modern jazz.
