Released in 2022 on Partisan Records, Where I’m Meant to Be stands as a landmark for British music. In 2023, it won the Mercury Music Prize — the first time in history a jazz group has ever received the award — confirming Ezra Collective as the beating heart of modern UK jazz.

Led by drummer Femi Koleoso, with Joe Armon-Jones on keys, TJ Koleoso on bass, Ife Ogunjobi on trumpet and James Mollison on saxophone, the group channels the energy of London’s clubs and community halls into a sound that’s joyful, unifying and unpretentious. Life Goes On, featuring Sampa The Great, sets the tone: urgent, melodic, and full of rhythm. No Confusion with Kojey Radical fuses jazz and grime with ease, while Smile and Live Strong radiate warmth and optimism. The closer, Love in Outer Space featuring Nao, feels like sunrise — gentle, luminous and assured.

Across its 13 tracks, Where I’m Meant to Be celebrates collaboration, faith, and creative freedom. The band’s interplay remains its own language: tight but fluid, technically sharp but emotionally open. Cameos from Emeli Sandé, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and narration by Steve McQueen only deepen the sense of purpose.

Pressed on double black vinyl and housed in a heavyweight sleeve, this album captures the very essence of a movement that’s redefined jazz for a new generation. Rooted in hip hop, Afrobeat and soul, it’s both a victory lap and an invitation — a modern classic that finally put UK jazz on the Mercury map.
