Released in June 1983 on Verve Records (Japan), this mono Japanese reissue of The Genius of Bud Powell, originally titled Bud Powell's Moods, compiles some of the pianist’s finest late-1940s and early-1950s Verve sessions. Accompanied on side B by Ray Brown (bass) and Buddy Rich (drums), Powell displays his trademark brilliance — dazzling runs, harmonic daring, and lyrical touch.

Side A highlights solo and small-group pieces filled with bebop fire and delicate phrasing, while side B’s trio recordings swing hard with rhythmic clarity and drive. The set captures Powell in full command of his powers, bridging virtuosity and vulnerability.
