Sparklmami is the stage name of Ariella Granados, born in Bryan, Texas to an Indian father and a Mexican mother, who grew up singing in church before a decade-long break from performing that preceded her emergence as a vocalist and producer in Chicago. She spent five years developing the material for her debut album "in this body" (Verve, 2026), a nine-song collection sung in English and Spanish that draws on 1970s Brazilian jazz, Mexican bolero, experimental soul and jazz funk, built around instinctual vocal improvisation over polyrhythmic loops. The album explores childhood memory, nostalgia and personal identity, including "fajas," written about her estranged father, whom she reconnected with in 2023. Her influences are specific: the warm, improvisational jazz made in Brazil in the early 1970s, and the open-hearted boleros she grew up hearing at home. She performed at SXSW in 2026 and has developed a following through word of mouth and platform curation since the album's June 2026 release. Granados is based in Chicago.
