Sinsuke Fujieda Group

Formed 2009

Sinsuke Fujieda Group is a Tokyo-based jazz ensemble led by saxophonist, flutist and composer Sinsuke Fujieda, originally from Mito, Ibaraki, who formed the group in 2009 and developed a practice of modal and spiritual jazz through original composition and collective improvisation across fifteen years of performing before the international vinyl market discovered them. "Fukushima" (Superfly Records/SoFa Records, 2025), recorded live in Tokyo in 2023, pairs Fujieda's tenor and soprano saxophone with Fumiko Takeshita on violin, Shinichi Tsukamoto on piano, Shigero Kato on bass, Kensaku Ohsumi on drums and Daisuke Alkhaly on percussion, across five original compositions. Released initially in a limited pressing of 1,000 copies on 180g Japanese vinyl, it reached number one on the Juno Records Jazz Chart and the Discogs Best-Selling New Releases Chart. By 2026, cumulative pressings had reached 9,000 copies. The group performed at Fuji Rock Festival's THE PALACE OF WONDER stage in 2025. "INFORMEL" (SoFa Records, October 2026), a double LP reimagining a 2020 Tokyo live performance from the group's present perspective, is their most recent release. The group remains active and based in Tokyo.
