Ornette Coleman

Ornette Coleman (1930-2015) was an American jazz saxophonist, trumpeter, violinist and composer who founded the free jazz genre. His 1959 album The Shape of Jazz to Come revolutionised jazz by abandoning traditional harmony and chord changes. His 1960 album Free Jazz featured two quartets improvising simultaneously. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2007 for Sound Grammar and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
