Nina Simone

Nina Simone (1933–2003), pianist, singer, composer and civil-rights voice. Classically trained, she fused jazz, blues, gospel and art-song intensity. Signature recordings include “Mississippi Goddam,” “Sinnerman,” “I Put a Spell on You,” and “Feeling Good”; key albums Little Girl Blue, Pastel Blues, High Priestess of Soul. Wrote the anthem “To Be Young, Gifted and Black.”
