Momoko Gill was born to Japanese, British and German parents and raised across Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom before studying anthropology in London and committing fully to music. Self-taught on drums, piano, production and composition, she built her reputation as a collaborator inside South London's jazz and experimental scene, appearing on records by Alabaster DePlume, Coby Sey, Tirzah and Arooj Aftab before releasing anything under her own name. A full-length collaboration with electronic producer Matthew Herbert, "Clay" (Strut, 2025), confirmed her as a voice worth following. Her debut solo album "Momoko" (Strut, February 2026), self-produced and engineered by Herbert, draws from trip-hop, spiritual jazz, singer-songwriter sensibility and Brazilian rhythmic influences across eleven tracks, with a core band including Tamar Osborn, Shabaka Hutchings, Soweto Kinch and Twm Dylan.
