Lee Morgan (1938–1972), hard-bop trumpet firebrand, rose from Dizzy disciple to Jazz Messenger star before cutting era-defining Blue Note albums. His boogaloo hit The Sidewinder crossed over to pop, while Search for the New Land, Cornbread and Lee-Way show deeper lyricism and bite. A towering talent whose life ended tragically in 1972.
