Humphrey Lyttelton

Humphrey Lyttelton (1921–2008)—trumpeter, bandleader and beloved broadcaster—helped define post-war British jazz. He led a powerhouse band, scored a UK Top 20 hit with ‘Bad Penny Blues’ (1956), and moved from trad roots to a swinging mainstream, collaborating with greats like Sidney Bechet and Buck Clayton. Later, he hosted BBC staples The Best of Jazz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.
