Jazz-Hip Hop Instrumental Group (2010-present)

BadBadNotGood (stylised BADBADNOTGOOD or BBNG) is a Canadian instrumental band and production team from Toronto founded in 2010 by bassist Chester Hansen, keyboardist Matthew Tavares, and drummer Alexander Sowinski, who met at Humber College's jazz programme. They bonded over jazz and hip hop, initially covering hip-hop tracks by Odd Future, Gucci Mane, and Earl Sweatshirt. They uploaded their EP BBNG to Bandcamp in June 2011 with covers of A Tribe Called Quest, Waka Flocka Flame, and Odd Future. Their debut album BBNG was released in September 2011. BBNG2 was released in April 2012, featuring original material and covers of Kanye West, My Bloody Valentine, James Blake, and Feist.

III was released on 6 May 2014, their first album of entirely original music. Sour Soul was released on 24 February 2015 in collaboration with Ghostface Killah, featuring MF DOOM, Elzhi, and Danny Brown. Saxophonist Leland Whitty joined as the fourth member in 2016. IV was released in 2016. Talk Memory was released in 2021, produced with Floating Points, and Mid Spiral was released in July 2024. They have collaborated with Tyler, The Creator, Daniel Caesar, Kendrick Lamar, Charlotte Day Wilson, and Arthur Verocai.
