Collection: Rob Luft
Rob Luft is a London-based jazz guitarist and composer whose work blends west African highlife, English folk, indie rock and contemporary jazz into a sound that's entirely his own. Born in Sidcup in November 1993, Luft has rapidly established himself as one of Europe's most compelling young voices in modern jazz.
A Royal Academy of Music graduate, Luft received the prestigious Kenny Wheeler Prize in 2016 and placed second in the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition the same year. He was selected as a BBC New Generation Jazz Artist from 2019 to 2022, a recognition that reflects his standing among Britain's finest jazz musicians.
His debut album Riser arrived in 2017 on Edition Records, followed by Life Is The Dancer in 2020 and Dahab Days. Each release has pushed his artistic boundaries further. His collaborations with Swiss-Albanian singer Elina Duni on ECM Records have taken him from New York's Le Poisson Rouge to Montreux Jazz Festival and Cairo, building an international audience for his distinctive guitar work.
Beyond his own projects, Luft performs regularly with John Surman, Django Bates, The Cinematic Orchestra and Byron Wallen's Four Corners. In November 2023, he performed his self-penned concerto for electric guitar and symphony orchestra at Queen Elizabeth Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra during London Jazz Festival, demonstrating his range as both performer and composer.
Whether exploring the sun-baked textures of Egypt or the intricate interplay of small ensemble jazz, Rob Luft brings technical brilliance and emotional depth to everything he plays.
