These two broadcasts, captured from club radio feeds rather than commercial sessions, give the record its particular character. The 1951 session on Side B is the sharper of the two sonically, the room close and the rhythm section immediate; Buster Harding's Trio anchors the set, and Stan Getz drifts in on three numbers. "He's Funny That Way" opens Side B with the Harding group, Holiday working at a mid tempo without hurry. "Billie's Blues," her own composition, is the bluntest statement on the record. "Miss Brown to You," "Lover Come Back to Me," "Ain't Nobody's Business If I Do" and the closing "You're Driving Me Crazy" complete the side.

Side A moves to October 1953, now with the Carl Drinkard Trio. The sound is marginally softer on the original tapes, and reviewers of multiple pressings have noted this difference exists in the source material rather than any manufacturing variation. Holiday's voice shows more wear than two years earlier but none less intensity. "I Cover the Waterfront," "I Love You Porgy," "Willow Weep for Me" and "You Go to My Head" are the strongest performances here, each given space to settle and develop. Both sessions were announced on broadcast by jazz critics of the period; the atmosphere of the club is audible in the room tone.
